Spotlight: Tuggs
Meet Tuggs… climate-conscious pet food purveyor and the #SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day for July 31.
Tuggs is an award-winning UK-based pet wellness company offering personalized, gently cooked meals for dogs in a sustainable way. Founded in 2022 by Harry Bremner, Tuggs is on a mission to help dogs thrive without sacrificing the planet. The company delivers ready-to-serve dog food tailored to personalized health plans to meet each dog’s nutritional needs, based on an online questionnaire. Their meals are cooked at low temperatures to preserve nutrients and delivered directly to consumers’ homes. Tuggs emphasizes transparency in sourcing and formulation, appealing to dog owners looking for healthier alternatives to traditional kibble or heavily processed foods.
With pet food accounting for 20% of farmed livestock and up to 30% of carbon emissions related to food production, Tuggs stands out in part for its use of insect protein—specifically black soldier fly larvae—as a key ingredient in many of its recipes. Insect protein has a dramatically lower environmental footprint compared to traditional meat, requiring significantly less land, water and feed while producing far fewer greenhouse gas emissions. The company also uses no additives or preservatives in its products and ships products with recyclable and/or returnable materials (while working on the recyclability of their product pouches).
By offering these insect-based meals alongside plant-forward options and recyclable shipping materials, Tuggs is helping pet owners lower their carbon pawprint and reflecting a growing shift in the pet food industry toward climate-conscious innovation.
