Spotlight: Visit Copenhagen

Meet Visit Copenhagen… innovator for sustainable tourism and the “#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day” for September 19.

Visit Copenhagen, an initiative of Wonderful Copenhagen, is deeply committed to sustainability, focusing on promoting responsible tourism that benefits both the environment and local communities. Alongside their work promoting the city as a top travel destination, Visit Copenhagen’s sustainability initiatives align with the city’s goal of becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025.

Visit Copenhagen’s recent CopenPay initiative (https://lnkd.in/grWdZekx) aimed at rewarding visitors for making eco-friendly travel choices. Under this initiative, tourists who engage in sustainable activities like biking, walking, or using public transportation were rewarded with free cultural experiences, including museum tours, boat rides, or meals at local, sustainable restaurants. The program also encouraged visitors to volunteer in environmental efforts, such as urban farming or canal clean-up, in exchange for perks like free admission to attractions. CopenPay was piloted during Copenhagen’s high tourist season in 2024, with the hope of making it a permanent feature and inspiring similar programs in other cities.
