Spotlight: ReNEWW House
Meet the ReNEWW House… celebrating 10 years as a sustainable home living laboratory and the “#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day” for September 23.
The ReNEWW (Retrofitted Net-Zero Energy, Water, and Waste) House is a collaborative project between Whirlpool Corporation and Purdue University, designed to demonstrate how existing homes can be retrofitted to achieve net-zero energy, water, and waste. Originally a 1920s bungalow in West Lafayette, Indiana, the house was transformed into a living laboratory where researchers and students test and develop sustainable technologies. Whirlpool Corporation is using this project to explore how sustainable lifestyles could be brought "to every home, everywhere."
The house is equipped with advanced energy systems, including solar panels and highly efficient appliances, to reduce energy consumption. It also incorporates water-saving innovations, such as greywater recycling and rainwater harvesting. Additionally, waste management practices focus on reducing material waste and improving recycling efforts. The ReNEWW House serves as both a research facility and a real-world example of how sustainable living can be achieved through the retrofitting of older homes, demonstrating Whirlpool’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in home appliances.
