Spotlight: Two Drifters Distillery

Cheers to Two Drifters Distillery… carbon-negative rum purveyors and the “#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day” for January 30.

Two Drifters Distillery is a UK-based rum producer founded in 2019 by Russ and Gemma Wakeham. The company was born out of a passion for crafting high-quality rum while making a positive impact on the planet. Specializing in a range of premium rums, including white, spiced, dark, and overproof varieties, Two Drifters combines traditional distillation techniques with a modern approach to business.

Sustainability is at the heart of Two Drifters Distillery, making it one of the world’s first carbon-negative rum producers. The company focuses on carbon emissions avoidance, including through an all-electric distillery running on 100% renewable energy, a closed-loop chiller, use of electric vehicles for deliveries and operations, very lightweight bottles and more. Through these efforts, Two Drifters has managed to reduce its total footprint to 1.20 kgCO2e, which the brand then addresses through its self-imposed carbon tax of purchasing permanent carbon removal through Climeworks (though with a goal to continue finding new ways to avoid remaining emissions).

By prioritizing sustainability at every stage of production, Two Drifters is setting a new standard in the spirits industry, proving that exceptional rum can be made with both craftsmanship and care for the planet.
