Spotlight: The Boatyard Distillery
Cheers to The Boatyard Distillery… purveyor of sustainable spirits and the “#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day” for March 7.
Boatyard Distillery is a family-owned, independent distillery based in Northern Ireland, dedicated to producing high-quality craft spirits with a focus on sustainability. Founded by a team of passionate spirits professionals, the distillery prides itself on using traditional methods combined with innovative techniques to create unique products. Boatyard is particularly renowned for its gins, vodkas, and whiskies, crafted from local ingredients sourced from nearby farms.
Inspired in part by the natural beauty of its location on the banks of Lough Erne, sustainability is at the heart of Boatyard Distillery’s operations, with several initiatives aimed at reducing their environmental footprint from grain-to-glass. The distillery uses sustainably sourced ingredients, with their juniper and all the botanicals from organic crops and their wheat from a local organic farmer in a direct distillery to farmer relationship. Both the Distillery’s Double Gin and Vodka are 100% certified organic. The Distillery looks to decarbonize and protect natural resources across its production, including sending stillage to local farmers for cattle feed and reusing spent botanicals to make chocolate. To help reduce the carbon output of transit, Boatyard Distillery offers bars and restaurants the 2.8L Eco-Pouches as an alternative to transporting heavy glass bottles. In early 2023, the Boatyard Distillery became a certified B Corp corporation – the first Irish distillery to achieve such certification.
