Called “California’s Most Eco-Conscious Winery” by the SF Chronicle, sustainability is deeply embedded at every step of the winemaking process and is seen as the long-term strategy for leading a healthy and thriving business without compromising natural resources. Their Silver Oak flagship wineries in the Napa Valley and Alexander Valley are LEED Platinum Certified, the world’s first production wineries to achieve this globally recognized symbol of sustainable achievement. The vineyards use Precision Viticulture to leverage vine-based technologies that transmit data about vineyard health and vigor to their winemaking team in real time, leading to more informed and conservative irrigation decisions. Renewable energy plays an important role at Silver Oak, with 1,464 solar panels at their Oakville winery producing nearly half of their energy needs while the 2,595 solar panels in Alexander Valley produce over one megawatt of electricity a year and generate more energy (105%) than they consume. Silver Oak has sustainability-related certifications from organizations including LEED, Sonoma County Winegrowers, Napa Green, the International Living Future Institute and others.
