Spotlight: Penrhos Spirits
Meet Penrhos Spirits… the “#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day” for September 9.
Penrhos Spirits is a British distillery founded by two farming families in Herefordshire. The company is known for its handcrafted gin and other spirits, which are inspired by the local countryside. Penrhos Spirits prides itself on producing high-quality, small-batch products using locally grown ingredients, including their own farm’s berries and botanicals. The distillery’s roots in farming and their deep connection to the land play a significant role in the identity of their brand.
Penrhos Spirits is also dedicated to sustainability and reducing waste in their production process. One of their key initiatives includes using surplus farm produce, such as “wonky” fruit that does not meet supermarket standards, in their spirits. This not only minimizes food waste but also promotes a circular approach to farming. Additionally, the company is the first distillery to move their spirits into 100% recycled aluminum, moving away from heavy and fragile glass bottles (energy intensive to recycle) and to a lighter, stronger and more environmentally friendly solution. Their commitment to sustainability reflects a broader mission to protect the environment while creating exceptional spirits from farm to bottle.
